Things to Try

  • Update the software on your Zune player and computer to the latest version. To do this, in Zune software, go to Settings, Software, General, and click Check for Updates.
  • Restart your player. To do this, on your Zune, press and hold the back button as you press up on the Zune Pad. When it turns on, release the buttons. Then restart your computer and connect your Zune to the computer.
  • If you get this message while trying to sync, remove some files from your player to clear some space, and try again.
  • On your computer, use Disk Space Cleanup Manager (in Windows Vista) or Disk Cleanup Manager (in Windows XP) to clear space and delete unneeded files.
  • Disconnect your Zune from your computer, reboot your computer, restart Zune software, and reconnect your Zune.

This error message can have several causes, and is likely the result of one of the following:

  • You may need to update Zune software on your player and computer.
  • You may be trying to play a media file that currently has no usable license.
  • You're unable to sync your player due to a media usage rights issue, or because you have too many files on your Zune.
  • There may not be enough space available on your computer.
  • Zune Marketplace may be down right now.
