choosing which software version to install

Read this to find out whether your computer needs the 32-bit or 64-bit version of the Zune software. Install the software whose bit count matches the bit count of your operating system.


Windows 7 and Windows Vista

Find the bit count of your Windows 7 or Windows Vista operating system

  1. In the taskbar, click the Start orb and enter "system" in the search box.
  2. In the search results, in the Programs group, click System Information.
  3. In the right panel, under Item, scan down to System Type:
    • 32-bit operating systems will use the phrase "32-bit Operating System" or "x86-based PC".
    • 64-bit operating systems will use the phrase "64-bit Operating System" or "x64-based PC".


Windows XP

Find the bit count of your Windows XP operating system

  1. Click Start, then click Run.
  2. Enter "sysdm.cpl" in the search box, then click OK.
  3. In System Properties, click the General tab and view the system area:
    • 32-bit operating systems will say "Microsoft Windows XP [Version] [Year]".
    • 64-bit operating systems will say "Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Version [Year]".
