Got a question about Zune setup? Check these answers to some common questions.

What should I do if my Zune doesn't respond to button presses?

Check the hold switch. If the hold switch is in the locked position, your Zune won't respond when you press its buttons or the Zune pad. Slide the hold switch to the unlocked position.

Try restarting your Zune. Press and hold the back button while pressing up on the Zune pad. Your Zune will turn off and on again.

If your Zune still doesn't respond, the battery may be too low. Try charging the battery using either a USB port on the back of your computer or the Zune AC adapter (sold separately).

For more detailed steps on how to resolve this problem, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article Your Zune device stops responding when you press a button or a control.

What should I do if my Zune isn't detected by my computer or Zune software?

You can do several things to resolve this problem, including disconnecting and reconnecting your Zune, restarting your Zune, checking for updates to the player software, plugging your sync cable into a USB port on the back of your computer, and more.

For step-by-step details on performing these tasks, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article Your Zune device is not detected by your computer or the Zune software.

What should I do if my Zune player battery doesn't seem to charge or charges very slowly?

Try plugging the sync cable into a USB port on the back of your computer (which typically provides more power than front USB ports) or recharging your Zune using the AC adapter (sold separately) plugged into a wall outlet.

For step-by-step details on performing these tasks, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article The battery does not seem to charge or charges very slowly when you try to charge a Zune device.

Why can't I sign into Zune Marketplace or create a Zune account?

This occurs when Windows Live ID services are unavailable through your Internet connection. You might have a network connectivity problem, or the Windows Live ID services Web site might be temporarily unavailable. Check to see if you can access the Web through your Web browser by going to MSN Support Services Network Status and clicking the "Microsoft Passport Network (now Windows Live ID)" link. Check the upper right area of the screen to find the current network status for Windows Live ID services.
