What's the difference between an audio CD and a data CD/DVD?
An audio CD is a CD-R or a CD-RW that will play on most CD players. Data CDs and DVDs typically play only on computers and can store music, videos, and pictures. Choose the one you want to use by what you want to burn and where you intend to play your disc.
You may be able to put more music on a data CD than you can on an audio CD, depending on the size of your music files. Files burned to data CDs are stored in their native file format, such as MP3, whereas files burned to an audio CD are converted to a format that CD players use.
To choose a disc format, go to the Burn Settings in the Zune software.
Different recordable CDs are optimized for different burn speeds. Can I change the burn speed?
Yes. In Burn Settings, select slow, medium, fast, or fastest.
A burn list is a temporary list of the items that you want to burn—or think you might want to burn—to a CD or DVD.
To start a burn list in the Zune software, drag items from your collection to the CD icon in the lower left. You can add as many items as you want, but before you start burning, make sure there's enough room on your disc to fit everything on your burn list. For instruction on burning discs, see Burn CDs and DVDs.
Can I change the order of items in a burn list?
Yes. To rearrange items on your burn list, drag them up or down.
Can I burn music I've downloaded from Zune Marketplace?
Yes, as long as you bought it. If you downloaded the music with a Zune Pass, you'll still need to buy it before you can burn it to a CD or DVD.
Can I burn an album directly from Zune Marketplace?
Just about! If you decide you want to burn a CD of a new album you're listening to at Zune Marketplace, just drag the album to the CD icon in the lower left. When you click Start Burn, you'll be prompted to buy the album if you haven't done so already.
Can I burn pictures and music on one disc?
You can, as long as you've selected data CD/DVD in Burn Settings.
If you put pictures and music on one disc, you can listen to your music while you watch a slideshow of your pictures when you play it on a compatible DVD player, such as the Xbox 360 Video Game and Entertainment System.
Can I burn videos to a DVD?
Videos purchased from Zune Marketplace cannot be burned to DVD. However, you can burn other videos as data files, as long as you've selected data CD/DVD in Burn Settings. Be aware, however, that the finished disc will play only on DVD players that are compatible with both your recordable DVD format and the format of the videos on the disc.
