Every song on your Zune and in your collection contains information about itself. This information is sometimes called metadata. Song information is useful for telling you everything from the name of a given song or album to less obvious details like a song's genre and release year.

View song info on your Zune

  • Select music, then select and play a song.

Look for the song information below the album art and the progress bar.

View song info in your collection

  1. In the Zune software, go to music and play a song.
  2. Click the pink Now Playing icon at the bottom right to see artist, album, and song information.
  3. For a more detailed view of song information for all your songs, click Exit, then—in the upper right—click List.

List view displays info for song, artist, album, and genre. To access even more, right-click between any two column headings, select Choose Columns, and select the info that you want to see displayed.

This lets you expose other info, including song length, contributing artists, release year, composer, and conductor. To change the order in which the columns appear, drag the headings up or down the list and click OK. You can also click and drag columns themselves to rearrange them.

From here you can easily sort your music and drag single songs or large sets of songs to your Zune, a burn list, or a playlist.
