The collection in Zune lists all of the songs, videos, podcasts, pictures, and playlists on your computer that Zune can play. It lets you easily find and play your digital media, as well as choose what you want to burn to a CD or sync to your Zune.

Display your collection

1. Start the Zune software, then click collection.
2. Click the part of your collection you want to see, such as music or videos.

Possibly the item that you tried to add to your collection is not in a format that Zune uses. To find out what types of media you can add to your Zune collection, see Zune Audio and Video Formats.

If you add a DRM-protected song (like those downloaded from Zune Marketplace) that is the same as an unprotected song already in the collection, the protected duplicate song is hidden from view unless the unprotected song is deleted. For more about DRM, see About Media Usage Rights.

The Music, Videos, and Pictures folders in Windows contain the media files, while the Zune collection contains links to those files. The collection gives you more control of how you organize and use your digital media than the Windows folders do.

The collection contains links to the music, videos, podcasts, and pictures on your computer. It does not contain actual digital media or copies of digital media.

You can't move your collection from one computer to another. To put your current collection on another computer, copy your music, videos, podcasts, and pictures to that computer, download and install the Zune software, and then add the media to the new collection.
